Egypt Launches National Smart Cities Strategy to Drive Sustainable Urban Growth

Egypt’s Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, has officially announced the launch of the National Smart Cities Strategy during the third day of the World Urban Forum. Speaking at a press conference, he described the initiative as a major step toward reimagining Egypt’s urban landscape—upgrading earlier generations of new cities, revitalizing existing urban centers, and laying the foundation for sustainable, digitally enabled cities of the future.
According to El-Sherbiny, the strategy represents more than infrastructure upgrades; it is a blueprint for creating interconnected and innovation-driven urban environments. Egypt’s smart cities are designed to foster economic, social, and environmental resilience while integrating advanced technologies and sustainable practices across all aspects of daily life.

The National Smart Cities Strategy is also aligned with broader sustainable development objectives.
