These services enable drivers to benefit from navigation systems, tracking features, and emergency assistance tools in a secure and regulated manner, while ensuring the protection of users’ data and privacy.

The National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA)  has approved allowing companies specialized in manufacturing smart vehicles to operate Internet of Things (IoT) services for cars in Egypt. These services enable drivers to benefit from navigation systems, tracking features, and emergency assistance tools in a secure and regulated manner, while ensuring the protection of users’ data and privacy.

In this context, Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat witnessed the signing of new licenses between NTRA and seven international companies to provide IoT services for cars in Egypt.

The signing included a number of leading global brands such as OnStar (General Motors), Mansour MG Automotive (IM brand, China), Global Auto (BMW), Alpha Ezz El-Arab (Volvo, Aston Martin, Lotus, and Lynk & Co), Egyptian International Motors – EIM (Zeekr and BAIC), Egyptian Automotive and Trading Co. (Audi, Škoda), and SMG Engineering Automotive Co. (Porsche, Scania).

In his remarks, the ICT Minister affirmed that introducing these services enhances the driving experience in Egypt as automakers expand the use of information and communication technologies. He added that this step provides citizens with higher levels of safety and convenience, noting that a fully integrated digital society cannot be built without harnessing all the benefits of digital systems.

Talaat explained that artificial intelligence technologies will continuously improve these services, pointing out that IoT is among the most significant modern technologies enabling citizens to interact securely and efficiently with various devices, particularly vehicles, thereby creating a more advanced user experience.

For his part, NTRA Executive President Mohamed Shamroukh stated that this step marks a new beginning for Egypt’s smart transport system, aligning with the state’s digital transformation strategy, while fully safeguarding users’ rights and protecting their data.

These licenses come within the framework of the Digital Egypt strategy, which seeks to adopt cutting-edge global technologies and deliver more advanced and secure services to Egyptian users.
