Kenya, with World Bank Support, Launches NYOTA Project to Boost Youth Skills and Enterprise
The project seeks to empower youth through employment creation, enterprise support, savings culture, and digital empowerment, reflecting the government’s commitment to inclusive economic growth and job creation in line with Kenya’s digital transformation agenda.
The Government of Kenya, with support from the World Bank, has initiated the nationwide rollout of the NYOTA Project (National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement), a flagship program aimed at creating sustainable opportunities for young people across the country.
The project seeks to empower youth through employment creation, enterprise support, savings culture, and digital empowerment, reflecting the government’s commitment to inclusive economic growth and job creation in line with Kenya’s digital transformation agenda.
According to John Kipchumba Tanui, Principal Secretary in the State Department for ICT and the Digital Economy, the rollout marks a key milestone in expanding opportunities for young Kenyans to “learn, earn, save, and scale their ideas into sustainable businesses.”
As part of the launch activities, Mr. Tanui will join Baringo County leaders in Kabarnet on Monday, October 6, for a sensitisation program targeting local leadership. The session will help mobilise county leaders to inspire and engage young people to participate actively in the NYOTA Project.
Addressing Kenya’s youth, Mr. Tanui urged them to embrace the initiative and take advantage of the resources and opportunities it offers.
“This program is designed for you. It will support you in learning, earning, saving, and scaling your ideas into sustainable businesses.”

In his statement, Mr. Tanui emphasized that every great enterprise begins with a single step, noting that the NYOTA Project could serve as “the spark that ignites the journey toward building something much bigger — for yourself, your family, and your community.”
The NYOTA Project is part of Kenya’s broader strategy to equip youth with digital and entrepreneurial skills, enhance job creation, and strengthen the country’s human capital base for the evolving digital economy.
