Senegal and China Strengthen Cooperation in Higher Education, Research, and Innovation

The Senegalese Minister commended the long-standing partnership between the two nations and underscored the strategic role of higher education, research, and innovation in building human capital — a priority under the Senegal Agenda 2050.

The Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation of Senegal received His Excellency Li Zhigang, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Senegal, for a high-level meeting focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in education, research, and innovation.

During the meeting, Ambassador Li emphasized China’s strong commitment to these key sectors, describing them as vital drivers of national development. He reaffirmed China’s readiness to deepen collaboration with Senegal and highlighted the country’s ongoing support through 60 annual scholarships granted to Senegalese students. The Ambassador also expressed China’s willingness to assist Senegal in areas such as digitalization, artificial intelligence (AI), and vocational training.

The Senegalese Minister commended the long-standing partnership between the two nations and underscored the strategic role of higher education, research, and innovation in building human capital — a priority under the Senegal Agenda 2050. He reaffirmed Senegal’s desire to strengthen cooperation in AI, technological advancement, and industrialization.

Both parties agreed to designate focal points — the Cultural Advisor of the Chinese Embassy and the Director of Studies and Cooperation of MESRI — to oversee the implementation of commitments made during the meeting. The audience concluded in a warm atmosphere, highlighted by a symbolic exchange of gifts, reaffirming the strength and mutual respect characterizing the Senegal–China partnership.
