LINX Launches New Internet Exchange in Ghana to Boost West Africa’s Connectivity

October 9, 2025
2 min read

LINX Accra is LINX’s first footprint into West Africa and marks a significant milestone in their mission to enhance interconnection, digital infrastructure and end user experience across Africa.

The London Internet Exchange (LINX)  has announced that their new interconnection point in Ghana is now ready for business.

LINX Accra is LINX’s first footprint into West Africa and marks a significant milestone in their mission to enhance interconnection, digital infrastructure and end user experience across Africa. The technical installation of LINX Accra has been completed at the two key data centre locations, Onix and PAIX, that form the foundation of phase one of this strategic interconnection hub.

The LINX fabric interconnects these sites with redundant fibre routes, a design that sets LINX apart from other IXPs, this enables networks at either location to exchange traffic in a method called peering. Peering is a low latency and cost-efficient way of network traffic routing and an area where LINX brings over 30 years of global interconnection expertise to the region.

LINX Accra will provide a neutral, future-proof platform and meeting place for Internet Service Providers (ISPs), content providers, cloud services, and enterprises to exchange data locally.

“The launch of LINX Accra is a major step forward in our commitment to supporting digital transformation across Africa. By enabling local traffic exchange, and connecting Onix and PAIX via our fabric, we’re helping to build a stronger, more resilient and higher performing internet ecosystem in the region.”

Jennifer Holmes, CEO, LINX

A third point of interconnection will follow in the coming weeks when the new Digital Realty data centre in Accra launches, taking the LINX Accra platform to 3 sites of access.

“We are lucky to have such engaged data centre partners here in Ghana. When building IXPs in new geographics, collaboration is key. Our data centre partners are a key part of our business case when building in new locations and success is very much a team effort.”

Nurani Nimpuno, Head of Global Engagement, LINX

LINX Accra is now live and open for peering. A 10GE port at LINX Accra with 2Gbps of service is included in the $130 monthly LINX membership fee.
