2 min read

The session served as a platform for dialogue on how NEMISA can effectively contribute to South Africa’s national priorities — particularly in the areas of digital skills development, technological innovation, and inclusive economic growth.

The Deputy Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, Hon. Mondli Gungubele, MP, delivered a keynote address at the National Electronic Media Institute of South Africa (NEMISA) Board of Directors Strategic Planning Session, where he emphasized the need for stronger alignment between NEMISA’s initiatives and the Department’s overarching digital transformation agenda. The session served as a platform for dialogue on how NEMISA can effectively contribute to South Africa’s national priorities — particularly in the areas of digital skills development, technological innovation, and inclusive economic growth.

During his address, Deputy Minister Gungubele underscored the critical importance of industry-driven digital skills training and collaborative partnerships across the digital ecosystem. He noted that as the digital economy continues to evolve rapidly, NEMISA’s role must expand to ensure the country’s workforce is equipped with the skills required to thrive in a data-driven world. The discussion focused on key themes such as the Department’s strategic direction, mechanisms for inter-sector collaboration, and national digital skills initiatives that support South Africa’s long-term competitiveness.

The session also reviewed NEMISA’s operating model and value proposition, with an emphasis on aligning its programmes with the Government’s Digital Transformation Roadmap. Through this strategic engagement, the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening partnerships and enhancing institutional capacity. The Deputy Minister reiterated that a coordinated, skills-focused approach is essential for ensuring that South Africa remains on course toward building a digitally inclusive, innovation-driven economy that benefits all citizens.
