The visit, held at the Tokyo Innovation Base (TIB) — an international innovation hub established by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government in 2023 — aimed to deepen understanding of how global innovation ecosystems operate and how similar models could be adapted to accelerate Tanzania’s digital economy transformation.

The Tanzania Telecommunications Corporation Limited (TTCL)  has participated in a high-level working visit to Japan, joining experts from various Tanzanian government institutions to explore strategies for fostering innovation, technology development, and startup growth.

During the visit, the Tanzanian delegation engaged with Japanese experts and entrepreneurs to learn about best practices in startup incubation, public–private sector collaboration, and investment facilitation. They also examined how TIB supports innovators through technical training, mentorship, and access to funding opportunities. TTCL’s participation underscores its ongoing commitment to building the digital infrastructure and innovation capacity necessary to position Tanzania as a leading technology hub in East Africa.

The delegation included representatives from the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, the TEHAMA Commission, TTCL, the Universal Communications Service Access Fund (UCSAF), the e-Government Authority (eGA), TISEZA, and the Commission for the Protection of Personal Information. Their collective engagement reflects Tanzania’s strategic focus on digital transformation, creativity, and inclusive technological growth. TTCL reaffirmed its role as a strategic driver of innovation in the communications sector, committed to empowering Tanzanians through access to modern technologies and fostering a sustainable digital economy for national development.
