Nigeria has earned international acclaim as the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) showcased the country’s leadership in building a transparent, accountable, and citizen-driven digital government. The recognition came at the 2025 Open Government Partnership (OGP) Summit held in Spain, where NITDA’s innovative efforts in promoting inclusive and responsive digital governance placed Nigeria firmly in the global spotlight.
In collaboration with the civil society organization Dataphyte, Nigeria won two prestigious international awards — the Regional Award for Africa and the Middle East for advancing Open Digital Governance, and the Thematic Award as the overall global winner in the Digital Governance Category. These honors underscore the country’s growing influence in shaping open and transparent digital ecosystems that prioritize citizen participation and accountability.
The awards were conferred following a rigorous review of 160 commitments submitted by 42 countries, with Nigeria’s initiatives standing out for their emphasis on innovation, data transparency, and trust-driven governance. Through NITDA’s strategic programs and partnerships, the nation continues to set new benchmarks in leveraging technology to enhance public service delivery and foster civic engagement.
The achievement marks a proud moment for Nigeria, reflecting the government’s ongoing dedication to building a digitally inclusive society anchored in openness and collaboration. NITDA’s success at the 2025 OGP Summit reaffirms Nigeria’s position as a leader in the global movement toward transparent and citizen-centered governance.
