The engagement followed earlier discussions held between both parties at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona and focused on advancing collaboration in key areas, including digital infrastructure expansion, 5G readiness, and innovation-led development.

The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George (MP), has reaffirmed the Government of Ghana’s commitment to accelerating the nation’s digital transformation during a high-level meeting with a delegation from Nokia at the Ministry’s headquarters in Accra.

The engagement followed earlier discussions held between both parties at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona and focused on advancing collaboration in key areas, including digital infrastructure expansion, 5G readiness, and innovation-led development. Hon. George commended Nokia for its sustained presence and technological leadership in Ghana, describing the company as a trusted partner supporting all major network operators in the country. He emphasized the Ministry’s central role as a facilitator of digital transformation across government sectors such as health, land administration, and public service delivery.

During the meeting, discussions explored joint opportunities in emerging domains such as 5G deployment, fibre-to-the-home connectivity, data centre development, and digital public safety systems. The Minister highlighted the government’s determination to ensure timely progress in 5G implementation and the enhancement of broadband reliability to foster innovation, enable remote work, and promote nationwide digital inclusion.

The delegation, led by Mr. Marco Rebecchi, Country Manager for Ghana and Nigeria, reaffirmed Nokia’s long-standing partnership with Ghana, which dates back to 1998. He highlighted the company’s contribution to major national projects, including the Eastern Corridor Fibre Network and the largest LTE rollout in Africa. Mr. Rebecchi also reiterated Nokia’s commitment to local capacity development, referencing the company’s newly completed Innovation Centre in Ghana, which will train local engineers and support the Ministry’s One Million Coders initiative.

Both parties expressed mutual readiness to deepen cooperation over the next 12 months, with a particular focus on innovation, rural connectivity, and sustainable digital infrastructure. Nokia also extended an invitation to the Minister to visit its Centre of Excellence in Finland to explore future technology partnerships and knowledge exchange opportunities.

Present at the meeting were Nana Tatse Narteh Afloe, General Program Manager; Osama Said, CT Head, Nigeria and Director CEWA; Mustapha Salah, MN MU CEWA Head; Rajiv Aggarwal, CNS GBC MEA SSA Leader; and Brepo Akrofi, Country People Manager.

The meeting underscored Ghana’s proactive approach to building a digitally empowered economy and Nokia’s continuing role as a strategic technology partner supporting the nation’s connectivity ambitions.
