Namibia and Angola Explore Satellite Connectivity Through ANGOSAT-2 Project
The collaboration aims to explore the potential of satellite connectivity to deliver internet and voice services to remote areas where terrestrial communication infrastructure remains limited.
The governments of Namibia and Angola are strengthening bilateral cooperation in the field of space technology and satellite communications through the ANGOSAT-2 project, a joint initiative between the Angolan Space Management Office and Telecom Namibia. The collaboration aims to explore the potential of satellite connectivity to deliver internet and voice services to remote areas where terrestrial communication infrastructure remains limited.
Speaking during an interministerial phone call between the two nations, Namibia’s Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Hon. Emma Theofelus, emphasized that enhancing cooperation in space-based communication is vital to expanding Namibia’s digital reach and connectivity options.
The Minister noted that leveraging Angola’s ANGOSAT-2 satellite capabilities could significantly contribute to bridging the digital divide, ensuring that even communities in rural and underserved regions gain reliable access to communication services.
Hon. Theofelus further underlined Namibia’s commitment to developing robust space technology activities and promoting partnerships that strengthen regional digital infrastructure and resilience. She affirmed that collaborations such as the ANGOSAT-2 project reflect the shared vision of both countries to harness technology as a catalyst for inclusive development, innovation, and socio-economic growth across Southern Africa.
