Egypt has achieved a new milestone in its digital transformation journey after winning the Regional Leadership Award in Internet Domains Development from the Arab Organization for Communication and Information Technologies. The award was presented to Egypt’s National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (NTRA)  during the Sixth Edition of the Internet Protocol (IPv6) International Forum, held as part of the Conference of Telecommunications Sector Regulators.

The recognition highlights Egypt’s leadership in advancing Internet infrastructure and its successful efforts in implementing the National Strategy for IPv6 adoption. This achievement marks Egypt as a frontrunner in the Arab and African regions for transitioning to the latest Internet Protocol standards, reinforcing its role as a regional hub for digital innovation and connectivity.

Egypt’s telecommunications sector has made significant progress through the first phase of the IPv6 executive plan, which resulted in the migration of over seven million web pages from the older IPv4 system to IPv6. This transition demonstrates the country’s readiness to support advanced technologies such as 5G networks, the Internet of Things (IoT), smart vehicles, and remote-metering systems. The adoption of IPv6 also enhances network security, expands address capacity, and improves overall service quality.

The NTRA’s roadmap aims for full IPv6 deployment by 2030, aligning with Egypt’s broader digital infrastructure and fifth-generation network strategy. This award not only recognizes the government’s ongoing efforts to modernize its digital ecosystem but also underscores Egypt’s commitment to maintaining a leadership position in telecommunication innovation across the Arab and African regions.
