Zimbabwe Approves National Artificial Intelligence Strategy for 2026–2030
The newly endorsed framework outlines the country’s vision to harness the economic potential of artificial intelligence while putting safeguards in place to manage its disruptive effects on society and the workforce.
Zimbabwe has taken a decisive step toward embracing the future of technology with the Cabinet’s approval of the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy (2026–2030). The newly endorsed framework outlines the country’s vision to harness the economic potential of artificial intelligence while putting safeguards in place to manage its disruptive effects on society and the workforce.
The AI strategy forms an integral part of Zimbabwe’s broader Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Architecture and the National ICT Policy, both of which guide the nation’s digital transformation efforts. The plan emphasizes the responsible and sustainable adoption of emerging technologies, aiming to strengthen innovation, improve service delivery, and enhance productivity across various sectors.
The announcement was made in Harare during a Post-Cabinet media briefing led by the Minister of Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services, Dr. Jenfan Muswere. The government views this initiative as a pivotal milestone in positioning Zimbabwe within the global digital economy, ensuring that artificial intelligence contributes meaningfully to national development goals while promoting inclusive growth and technological resilience.
