University of Dar es Salaam Strengthens Industry-Academia Ties to Boost Tanzania’s Digital Growth

The University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) has reaffirmed its commitment to bridging the gap between academic learning and industry practice through the successful hosting of the 6th Industrial Advisory Committee (IAC) Meeting for the ICT and Media Cluster. The event, held at the PSSF Building in Dar es Salaam, brought together top industry leaders, policymakers, and academic experts to foster collaboration in research, innovation, and workforce development.
The meeting served as a strategic platform for aligning academic programs with the evolving needs of Tanzania’s digital economy. Discussions focused on enhancing hands-on learning, strengthening industry partnerships, and promoting innovation-driven education. The event concluded with the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between the University and private sector partners, as well as the donation of modern ICT equipment aimed at equipping students with advanced practical skills in digital technologies.
In his remarks, Prof. Zaipuna Yona, Chairperson of the Industrial Advisory Committee, described the partnership as “a new chapter for innovation-driven education in Tanzania.” He emphasized that the collaborative efforts showcased at the meeting will play a crucial role in transforming graduates into innovators and job creators, capable of driving the nation’s digital transformation and contributing to sustainable economic growth.
The Industrial Advisory Committee (IAC) continues to serve as a cornerstone in strengthening the synergy between universities and industry. By promoting curriculum relevance, employability, and the commercialization of research, the IAC initiative is helping to build a knowledge-based economy that aligns education with national development priorities.
