Ethio Telecom and Djibouti Telecom Deepen Strategic Partnership to Boost Regional Digital Connectivity

Ethio Telecom and Djibouti Telecom have reaffirmed their long-standing partnership and commitment to advancing regional digital integration following a high-level strategic meeting held in Addis Ababa between Ethio Telecom CEO Frehiwot Tamru and Djibouti Telecom Director General Mohammed Assoweh.
The meeting focused on reviewing the progress of ongoing joint initiatives and identifying new opportunities for collaboration within the rapidly evolving East African digital ecosystem. A central point of discussion was the acceleration of the “Horizon Fiber” tripartite project, a strategic collaboration between Ethio Telecom, Djibouti Telecom, and Sudatel. This initiative aims to enhance regional interconnectivity and strengthen digital infrastructure to support cross-border data and communication services.
Both operators also explored deeper cooperation across key sectors, including international gateway partnerships, interconnectivity, mobile money, enterprise solutions, and roaming services. The dialogue emphasized the importance of expanding regional connectivity to meet the growing demand for international bandwidth and to advance the use of digital financial services such as mobile money.
Ethio Telecom and Djibouti Telecom reaffirmed their shared vision of ensuring that the benefits of digital progress are accessible to citizens in both countries, reflecting their broader commitment to driving Africa’s digital transformation. Following the discussions, the Djibouti Telecom delegation toured Ethio Telecom’s Digital Experience Center, where they were introduced to innovative solutions in smart agriculture, e-education, and digital healthcare. These technologies demonstrate the potential of digital transformation to accelerate socioeconomic growth and enhance inclusivity across the continent.
The strengthened partnership underscores both companies’ dedication to building a robust and interconnected regional digital economy that will serve as a foundation for sustainable development and technological advancement across East Africa.
