A Decade of Vision: Azercosmos Marks 10 Years of Driving Development through Earth Observation

Azercosmos , the Space Agency of Azerbaijan, organized a high-level event titled “Opportunities from Space: 10 Years of Earth Observation Supporting Socio-Economic Development” to celebrate a decade of delivering satellite-driven solutions across key sectors.

The event brought together representatives from government, business, academia, and the media, highlighting how Earth observation technologies are turning data into action, helping both public institutions and private enterprises make smarter, faster, and more sustainable decisions.

One of the main sessions, “How Satellite Services Support Azerbaijan’s Development,” showcased real-world applications of data captured by Azersky, the country’s first high-resolution observation satellite.

Since its launch, Azersky has generated an archive of over 80,000 high-resolution images, which have powered solutions across:

• Agriculture: Optimizing crop planning and yield monitoring
• Environment & Climate: Tracking deforestation, land degradation, and pollution
• Urban Development: Supporting infrastructure planning and smart cities
• Water & Land Management: Helping assess and manage natural resources etc.

These insights have not only supported national planning but have also been used by private companies and international partners seeking reliable, region-specific satellite data.

Azercosmos is not just delivering satellite imagery, it’s building a complete ecosystem. Through its GIS Center, the agency has supported nearly 1,000 local and international projects.

Looking to the future, the next generation satellite, Azersky-2, is already in development.
