Nigeria and Denmark have formalized a new chapter of digital cooperation through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at advancing collaboration across digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence (AI), connectivity, and innovation.
The agreement, signed between the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy (FMCIDE) and the Government of Denmark, underscores both nations’ shared commitment to building inclusive, technology-driven economies anchored in mutual respect and sustainable development.
According to Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani, the partnership represents a significant step in deepening digital ties and expanding opportunities for Nigerian talent and innovation. Through the MoU, both countries will collaborate to scale broadband infrastructure, pilot smart digital governance solutions, and create pathways for Nigerian technology professionals to work with Danish companies—both remotely and through in-country exchanges.
The Danish State Secretary for Trade, Lina Gandløse Hansen, reaffirmed her country’s support for Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda, emphasizing Denmark’s readiness to strengthen cooperation in innovation, AI, and connectivity.
Beyond the MoU framework, Denmark has also pledged €12 million in support through the European Union for Nigeria’s 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme—an initiative designed to train and place digital professionals across the country and the continent.
Dr. Tijani noted that this collaboration highlights Nigeria’s openness to international partnerships and its determination to localize global best practices in digital policy, infrastructure, and capacity development.
The Nigeria–Denmark partnership reflects a growing recognition of Africa’s potential as a hub for digital innovation and talent, and marks another milestone in Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to strengthen global alliances in the digital economy.
