Author: Akim Benamara

The initiative reflects Senegal’s strong commitment to accelerating digital transformation and building a more connected, citizen-focused government.

The official launch of Gov’athon 2025 took place on October 24, 2025, in Dakar. The event was co-presided over by Alioune Sall, Minister of Communication, Telecommunications and Digital Affairs, and Olivier Boucal, Minister of Public Service, Labour and Public Service Reform. Also in attendance were Khady Diene Gaye, Minister of Youth and Sports, and Samba Diouf, Ministerial Advisor to the President in charge of Digital Affairs.

Gov’athon 2025 attracted a total of 812 project submissions from innovators across the country. Out of these, 104 projects were selected for the next phase — 72 in the “Students” category, 11 in the “Start-ups” category, and 21 in the “Citizens” category. The initiative continues to serve as a platform for collaboration, creativity, and digital public innovation.

The programme is part of Senegal’s broader “New Deal Technologique” agenda, which aims to place youth and citizen-led innovation at the center of public service transformation. Gov’athon fosters co-creation and inclusive participation, strengthening the relationship between the State and its citizens through practical digital solutions.

Its structure includes an open submission platform, regional outreach through Govatour, and a mentorship and incubation track for selected teams ahead of a final award ceremony. The initiative reflects Senegal’s strong commitment to accelerating digital transformation and building a more connected, citizen-focused government.
