Kenya Opens CyberWeek Africa 2025 to Strengthen Continental Cybersecurity and AI Collaboration
The summit, running from October 27 to 31, is Africa’s premier forum on cybersecurity and artificial intelligence (AI), bringing together policymakers, industry leaders, experts, and innovators to address the continent’s most pressing digital security challenges.
The Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, H.E. Hon. William Kabogo Gitau, officially opened CyberWeek Africa (CWA) 2025 at the Kenya School of Government (KSG) in Nairobi. The summit, running from October 27 to 31, is Africa’s premier forum on cybersecurity and artificial intelligence (AI), bringing together policymakers, industry leaders, experts, and innovators to address the continent’s most pressing digital security challenges.
In his keynote address, the Cabinet Secretary underscored the importance of the conference theme, “Compliance by Design,” emphasizing that embedding trust, ethics, and resilience into digital governance is essential to securing Africa’s digital future. He noted that the Government of Kenya has implemented a range of cyber safety mechanisms and policy frameworks to protect citizens and institutions from threats such as data theft, phishing, ransomware, and AI-driven cyber intrusions.
CyberWeek Africa 2025 serves as a strategic platform for collaboration and knowledge exchange, enabling stakeholders across government, academia, and the private sector to explore innovative solutions for building a secure, robust, and inclusive digital ecosystem. The Cabinet Secretary reiterated Kenya’s commitment to advancing cybersecurity as a core pillar of national and continental development, calling for stronger regional cooperation in pursuit of digital sovereignty and resilience.
The event drew participation from a diverse group of global and regional leaders, including H.E. Gideon Behar, Ambassador of Israel to Kenya; H.E. Maroš Mitrík, Ambassador of Slovakia to Kenya; Prof. Nura Mohamed, Director General of KSG; Mr. Samuel Cheng, Managing Director of Huawei Kenya; Mr. Emmanuel Kimeu, Secretary of ICT, Security and Audit Control; Mr. Preston Odera, Executive Chairman of Cyberpro Global; and Mr. John Mutunga, CEO of Cyberpro Global, among other dignitaries and representatives from the diplomatic corps.
CyberWeek Africa 2025 continues throughout the week, featuring keynote sessions, workshops, and exhibitions focused on advancing Africa’s cybersecurity capabilities, fostering innovation in AI, and promoting compliance-driven digital transformation across sectors.
