Harold Mac Brey Msusa Named Malawi’s Secretary for ICT to Drive Digital Transformation Agenda

President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has appointed Harold Mac Brey Msusa as the new Secretary for Information and Communication Technology in Malawi. The appointment, announced by the Government of Malawi on October 28, 2025, marks an important milestone in the country’s efforts to advance its digital transformation and support the broader goals of the Malawi 2063 Vision.
Msusa is a seasoned executive with more than twenty years of professional experience spanning public affairs, sustainability, regulatory management, and digital transformation across the public, private, and development sectors. He has earned a strong reputation for driving institutional reform, fostering strategic partnerships, and aligning governance frameworks with innovation and technology. His extensive leadership experience makes him well-positioned to guide Malawi’s ICT agenda toward inclusive growth and modernization.
Before his appointment, Msusa served as Director of Public Affairs, Communication, and Sustainability at Coca-Cola Beverages Africa (Malawi). In that capacity, he led major initiatives in corporate sustainability, stakeholder engagement, and environmental stewardship, advancing key national and regional goals in water conservation, climate resilience, economic inclusion, and circular packaging. His leadership contributed significantly to strengthening corporate-community relations and promoting sustainability-driven growth.
Msusa’s professional background also includes several senior roles that reflect his diverse expertise. As Programme Manager for Nature-Based Solutions at C-Quest Capital, he oversaw large-scale, climate-smart, and carbon market initiatives under the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) framework. He also served as Commercial Director at Malawi Posts Corporation (MPC), where he led the institution’s digital modernization and service diversification, helping to reposition the parastatal for long-term sustainability. Earlier in his career, he held the position of Director of Corporate Affairs and Communications at Japan Tobacco International (JTI), where he managed public policy, sustainability programs, and stakeholder engagement across Malawi and the region. Additionally, as Executive Director of MALEZA, he guided donor-funded programs focused on food security, livelihoods, and institutional development.
Academically, Harold Mac Brey Msusa holds a Master of Science in Agricultural Sciences from the University of Tsukuba in Japan and a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (Engineering) from the University of Malawi, Bunda College of Agriculture. His educational background, combined with his leadership experience, provides a strong foundation for advancing Malawi’s ICT framework and innovation-driven economy.
As Secretary for Information and Communication Technology, Msusa is expected to play a central role in shaping the nation’s digital governance strategy, enhancing ICT infrastructure, and promoting innovation across key sectors.
