The partnership aims to expand postgraduate access, digitize research collaboration, and empower African universities to lead in AI-driven innovation.

At the ARUA 2025 Biennial International Conference held in Kampala, Uganda, Astria Learning  and Makerere University  officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch the AI eCampus Partnership. This initiative represents a significant milestone in advancing digital education and artificial intelligence across Africa. The partnership aims to expand postgraduate access, digitize research collaboration, and empower African universities to lead in AI-driven innovation.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by Hon. Dr. Monica Musenero Masanza, Uganda’s Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe, Vice-Chancellor of Makerere University, and Dr. Jeff Bordes, Chief Executive Officer of Astria Learning. Their presence underscored the importance of collaboration between government, academia, and the private sector in shaping the future of higher education on the continent.

Astria Learning, an international educational technology company specializing in online learning and digital transformation for higher education, is partnering with Makerere University, one of Africa’s leading research institutions. Together, they seek to create a modern digital learning ecosystem where technology and education converge. The AI eCampus initiative is expected to facilitate research collaboration, enable flexible postgraduate study, and expand opportunities for students and faculty across Africa.

The partnership is designed to strengthen the digital capabilities of universities and provide access to high-quality online learning resources. Astria Learning will contribute its technological infrastructure, digital platforms, and e-learning expertise, while Makerere University will provide academic leadership and research excellence. This collaboration aligns with broader efforts to promote innovation and strengthen Africa’s competitiveness in artificial intelligence, education, and research.

Through this MoU, both institutions envision building the foundation for Africa’s intelligent education ecosystem—one that connects research, innovation, and digital transformation to drive sustainable development and inclusive growth across the continent.
