Kenya Champions Digital Innovation at Economic Governance School Panel on Digital Disruptions

The Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy of Kenya participated in a panel discussion titled “Digital Disruptions in Growth — Cultural Shifts, Lessons, and Future”, held at the Kenya School of Government (KSG), Lower Kabete Campus. The event formed part of the 2025 Economic Governance School (EGS) Programme, themed “Action Steps for Shared Economic Futures.”
The EGS Programme is a prestigious capacity-building initiative aimed at senior government officials from Kenya, Ghana, and South Africa. It focuses on enhancing leadership and governance competencies through cross-country collaboration and shared learning experiences, highlighting how digital transformation is shaping economic governance across Africa.
Representing Principal Secretary Eng. John Tanui, Rebecca Keli, Director of ICT at the State Department for ICT and Digital Economy, delivered insightful remarks emphasizing the Ministry’s key focus areas. She underscored the central role of digital innovation and youth empowerment in driving Kenya’s digital transformation agenda. In her remarks, she called for the ethical and responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), urging that African data must be harnessed to develop AI models that reflect local contexts and realities rather than external perspectives.
The panel discussion delved into how the digital revolution is transforming cultural heritage, social norms, and economic behavior across Africa. Participants discussed how digital disruptions can serve as catalysts for innovation and resilience, offering valuable lessons for sustainable growth in African economies.
Among the distinguished panelists were Dr. Eng. Joseph Ndung’u, Director of e-ILTI at KSG, and C.T. Muga, Media Consultant and Thought Leader. The event concluded with participants touring the Regional Centre of Competence for Digital and AI Skilling, an institution dedicated to advancing digital capacity and promoting AI literacy across Kenya and the wider region.
The engagement reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to digital inclusivity, ethical AI development, and cross-border collaboration as key pillars of its digital economy strategy — reinforcing the country’s leadership in Africa’s ongoing digital transformation journey.
