October 31, 2025
2 min read

This achievement reflects UAB’s ongoing commitment to financial inclusion and digital innovation, in alignment with the UAE’s broader Cashless Economy and Payments Transformation Agenda.

United Arab Bank (UAB)  has announced the successful issuance of its UAB Jaywan Prepaid Card, developed in collaboration with Network International,  IDEMIA Secure Transactions,  and Al Etihad Payments (AEP)  — a subsidiary of the Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) and the official operator of Jaywan, the UAE’s national card scheme. This achievement reflects UAB’s ongoing commitment to financial inclusion and digital innovation, in alignment with the UAE’s broader Cashless Economy and Payments Transformation Agenda.

The launch event was attended by key leaders from UAB, including Shirish Bhide, Chief Executive Officer; Emre Yalcin, Head of Retail Banking; and Dr. Abdulla Altaee, Chief Operating Officer. Also in attendance was Murat Cagri Suzer, Group CEO of Network International, highlighting the significance of this collaboration between leading financial and payments technology institutions.

The introduction of the UAB Jaywan Prepaid Card represents an important step in supporting the UAE’s vision to localize and strengthen its payments infrastructure. The Jaywan scheme, managed by AEP, aims to provide a homegrown payment network that reduces reliance on international systems while promoting cost efficiency, secure transactions, and wider access to financial services for residents across the Emirates.

For United Arab Bank, this initiative underscores a strategic move to enhance its digital payment offerings and customer experience. The Jaywan Prepaid Card is designed to provide secure, convenient, and flexible payment options for individuals and families—supporting everyday purchases, household budgeting, and financial control. It also positions UAB as a key player in advancing the UAE’s goal of becoming a leader in digital and cashless financial ecosystems.

The collaboration between UAB, Network International, IDEMIA, and Al Etihad Payments demonstrates a shared commitment to accelerating innovation in the payments space. By combining advanced card technology, robust infrastructure, and regulatory oversight, the partners aim to deliver an inclusive and efficient national payment platform that benefits both consumers and businesses.

Looking ahead, the Jaywan Prepaid Card initiative sets the stage for broader adoption of local card schemes, digital wallets, and advanced payment solutions across the country. It strengthens the UAE’s financial sovereignty and marks another milestone in the nation’s journey toward a fully integrated, secure, and modern digital economy.
