Kenya Strengthens Private Sector Collaboration to Expand 100,000km Fibre Network and Public Wi-Fi Access

As Kenya advances the rollout of 100,000 kilometres of fibre connectivity, 25,000 public Wi-Fi hotspots, and new digital hubs nationwide, continued engagement between the government and private sector remains key to delivering the country’s digital transformation goals.
At a meeting held at the Ministry Headquarters, Hon. William Kabogo Gitau met with Dr. Andile Ngcaba, a leading African technology investor and founder involved in major infrastructure projects, including SEACOM, the first undersea fibre-optic cable system connecting Africa’s East Coast.
Their discussion focused on Kenya’s National Connectivity Programme, a central pillar of the Digital Superhighway under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). The two leaders exchanged insights on expanding broadband infrastructure, strengthening local capacity, and involving communities in digital infrastructure deployment and maintenance.
Hon. Kabogo reaffirmed the government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for private sector participation, emphasizing that collaborative innovation and investment are essential for ensuring that data in Kenya remains accessible, affordable, and of high quality.
