There are now plans in place, under the Federal Ministry of Communications Innovation and Digital Economy, through Project Bridge, to build an additional 90,000 kilometres of fibre, aimed at connecting underserved and unserved communities, thereby enhancing national connectivity and digital inclusion.

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Galaxy Backbone (GBB), Professor Ibrahim A. Adeyanju, has reiterated the company’s unwavering commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s digital infrastructure through an ambitious expansion of its national fibre network and advanced data centre facilities.

Professor Adeyanju made this known while delivering a goodwill message at the West Africa Digital Forum, held as part of the 18th International Conference on Theory and Practice of Electronic Governance (ICEGOV 2025), organized by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), in collaboration with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) and the United Nations University Operating Unit on Policy-Driven Electronic Governance (UN-EGOV).

In his remarks, the GBB CEO highlighted the progress achieved through the partnership between Galaxy Backbone and the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy (FMCIDE) in expanding the nation’s fibre infrastructure. He noted that GBB has already rolled out over 5,000 kilometres of fibre across 28 states. There are now plans in place, under the Federal Ministry of Communications Innovation and Digital Economy, through Project Bridge, to build an additional 90,000 kilometres of fibre, aimed at connecting underserved and unserved communities, thereby enhancing national connectivity and digital inclusion.

Professor Adeyanju also emphasized GBB’s sustained investment in digital infrastructure through its two state-of-the-art data centres, for hosting and business continuity purposes, designed to provide a secure and reliable platform for government institutions and businesses to deliver innovative digital services. He reaffirmed that the company remains committed to working with national and international partners to deepen Nigeria’s digital ecosystem, foster economic growth, and position the country as a leading digital hub in Africa.
