Tunisia Becomes First African Country to Host MEDUSA Submarine Cable with Orange Tunisie
Orange Tunisie and the Medusa Submarine Cable System have officially announced the landing of the MEDUSA submarine cable in Bizerte, marking a pivotal step in enhancing Tunisia’s digital connectivity and integration into the global digital economy.
Tunisia becomes the first African nation to host the MEDUSA cable — a strategic infrastructure project backed by the European Union and the European Investment Bank under the Global Gateway initiative.
Developed by AFR-IX Telecom, the MEDUSA cable spans 1,040 kilometers and offers a capacity of 24 Tbps, directly linking Tunisia to Marseille and the wider Mediterranean network. This development positions Tunisia as an emerging digital hub in the Mediterranean region.
According to Orange Tunisie, this achievement aligns with the company’s broader vision: investing in cutting-edge infrastructure to foster digital transformation, digital sovereignty, and economic competitiveness.
