Gabon and Equatorial Guinea Strengthen Digital Cooperation with Border Infrastructure Visit
The visit aimed to foster closer collaboration between the two neighboring countries and advance regional digital integration.
The Ministry of Digital Economy, Digitalisation and Innovation of Gabon conducted a high-level visit to Equatorial Guinea on 9 November 2025 to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the digital sector. The visit aimed to foster closer collaboration between the two neighboring countries and advance regional digital integration.
During the visit, Gabonese officials, along with their Equatorial Guinean counterparts, toured technical sites in Mongomo (Equatorial Guinea) and Oyem (Gabon), located along the border. The delegations inspected the progress of infrastructure, antennas, fiber optics, and telecommunication equipment to explore ways to improve interconnection between the two nations.
Following the site visits, a bilateral working session was held to review preparatory work conducted by the technical teams of both countries. Participants included representatives from Gabon’s ARCEP, SPIN, ANINF, and operators Moov Africa Gabon Telecom and Airtel Gabon, alongside their Equatorial Guinean counterparts. Discussions focused on operationalizing future agreements related to fiber optic interconnection, free roaming between the countries, and coordination of border frequencies to ensure smoother network performance.
The joint initiatives reflect a concrete step toward regional integration and highlight the role of digital technology in connecting peoples and fostering development. The efforts were supported under the leadership of Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema and Equatorial Guinean President Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, demonstrating a shared vision for enhanced digital cooperation and regional connectivity.
