Kenya Advocates Technology and Green Transition to Strengthen EAC MSMEs
Mercy Wanjau, who set the context for the panel discussion on Digital and Green Transformation, emphasized that regional integration is not merely a policy objective but a shared pathway toward collective prosperity.
At the 25th East African Community (EAC) MSMEs Trade Fair Ministerial Round Table, Kenya reaffirmed its commitment to regional integration and the promotion of sustainable growth for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). Mercy Wanjau, who set the context for the panel discussion on Digital and Green Transformation, emphasized that regional integration is not merely a policy objective but a shared pathway toward collective prosperity.
The panel focused on how MSMEs can leverage digitalisation and the green transition to enhance efficiency, expand revenues, and build more resilient businesses capable of scaling across borders. Wanjau highlighted her experience in digitizing government services, noting that similar technological transformations could empower MSMEs to strengthen operations and seize new growth opportunities.
Participants at the roundtable included representatives from EAC partner states, the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat, and the United Nations. The discussions underscored the importance of innovation and the development of regional value chains to make East African MSMEs more competitive in both local and international markets. The event marked a continued effort to align technology adoption and sustainable practices with the broader goals of regional integration and economic resilience.
