The partnership aims to provide Ghanaian students and researchers with direct access to cutting-edge quantum tools, accelerating skills development in AI and quantum computing.

Flapmax,  a leading AI infrastructure company, through its research and education hub, the FAI Institute, has announced a strategic collaboration with IBM to advance quantum science and AI innovation in Ghana. As part of the initiative, Palm University College will host Ghana’s first Quantum-AI Summit alongside IBM Qiskit Fall Fest. Scheduled for November 21, 2025, the summit will include industry keynotes, academic workshops, hands-on quantum computing sessions, and a global virtual hackathon, with participants able to join either in person at Palm University College, Accra, or online via the FAI Institute’s platform.

The partnership aims to provide Ghanaian students and researchers with direct access to cutting-edge quantum tools, accelerating skills development in AI and quantum computing. Dr. Peter Carlos Okantey, Founder and President of Palm University College, emphasized that the summit represents a critical investment in Ghana’s scientific future, providing young innovators with opportunities to compete on a global stage.

The summit aligns with the United Nations’ International Year of Quantum Science and Technology and supports FAI Institute’s mission to democratize access to modern scientific tools. IBM Quantum will provide hands-on exposure to quantum programming, algorithms, and emerging quantum-AI workflows, fostering practical learning and research skills among attendees. Palm University College was selected due to its strong focus on hands-on STEM education, ethical leadership, and innovation, positioning it as a hub for Africa’s first comprehensive quantum-AI event.

Flapmax CEO Dr. Dave Ojika highlighted that the collaboration is designed to expand access to transformative technologies across Africa. The summit is expected to strengthen Ghana’s role in frontier scientific research, with potential applications spanning materials discovery for next-generation batteries, energy grid optimization, predictive healthcare diagnostics, and climate-resilient agriculture.

The event also supports student-led initiatives, including the Palm University AI & Quantum Computing Club, which promotes collaborative research, mentorship, and broader access to quantum-AI education. IBM selected FAI Institute and Palm University College from over 600 global applicants, placing Ghana among the top 150 institutions recognized for advancing quantum and AI research. The hybrid summit and hackathon will feature challenges in agriculture, energy, and healthcare, with winners gaining access to Flapmax’s hybrid Quantum–AI compute platform and all attendees receiving official IBM participation certificates.

Over 100 participants from more than six institutions in Accra have already registered, demonstrating growing interest in positioning Ghana as a leader in quantum and AI innovation.
