Namibia Advances Digital Connectivity with Launch of E-SIM Technology
The rollout reflects Namibia’s commitment to modernizing its telecommunications infrastructure and promoting convenience, flexibility, and digital innovation for users across the country.
The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology of Namibia has marked a significant step toward digital transformation with the migration from physical SIM cards to electronic SIM (e-SIM) technology, following the launch by Minister Emma Teophelus two months ago.
E-SIMs are embedded directly into mobile devices, allowing users to activate mobile plans without the need for a physical card. The technology also enables multiple SIM profiles on a single device while enhancing security for mobile subscribers.
The initiative saw participation from the ministry’s leadership, including Interim Executive Director Linda Aipinge and Director of Audio-Visual Media Roselia Penda, who were among the first to register their e-SIMs. The rollout reflects Namibia’s commitment to modernizing its telecommunications infrastructure and promoting convenience, flexibility, and digital innovation for users across the country.
