OmanSat-1 will operate in the Ka-band, providing high-capacity connectivity primarily over Oman, its economic waters, and extending across the Middle East, East Africa, and Asia.

Space Communication Technologies (SCT), Oman’s national satellite operator, has signed a contract with Airbus Defence and Space  to deliver OmanSat-1, a state-of-the-art, fully reconfigurable high-throughput OneSat telecommunications satellite and associated systems. SCT leads Oman’s National Satellite Programme, building satellite communications infrastructure to serve both public and private sector needs.

OmanSat-1 will operate in the Ka-band, providing high-capacity connectivity primarily over Oman, its economic waters, and extending across the Middle East, East Africa, and Asia. Its fully reconfigurable design allows SCT to meet the demands of diverse users, including government and private networks, oil and gas, banking, broadband, maritime, and aeronautical services. The satellite is expected to strengthen Oman’s position as a major regional player in these markets.

Airbus will deliver a fully integrated end-to-end solution, including satellite design and manufacture, ground segment software components, and launch services. OmanSat-1 marks the 10th satellite under contract in Airbus’ OneSat product line, known for its ability to adjust coverage, capacity, and frequency dynamically while in orbit. The platform builds on Airbus’ Eurostar geostationary satellite heritage and leverages expertise from the OneWeb constellation programme.

The contract underscores SCT’s strategic role as Oman’s national satellite operator and its commitment to developing sovereign capabilities in satellite communications. The satellite will enable flexible, high-throughput services and access to new markets thanks to its advanced software-defined design.

Airbus expressed its commitment to supporting Oman’s National Satellite Programme, providing world-class flexible telecommunications capability and fostering knowledge transfer and technical development within the Sultanate. SCT aims to establish itself as a leading regional satellite operator, offering robust, integrated, and secure telecommunications solutions.
