Chad and U.S. Explore Greater Cooperation in Telecommunications and Digitalization
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen cooperation and enhance the involvement of American companies in Chad’s digital and technology initiatives, signaling a step forward in international collaboration in the country’s growing tech sector.
Dr. Boukar Michel, Chad’s Minister of Telecommunications, Digital Economy, and Digitalization of the Administration, met with William Flens, the United States Business Commissioner in Chad, accompanied by Dr. Arthur James Bell, First Secretary of the U.S. Embassy, to discuss boosting bilateral cooperation in the telecommunications and digital sectors.
The discussions centered on addressing connectivity challenges, modernizing national digital infrastructure, and promoting investment opportunities for American companies in Chad. The U.S. delegation highlighted the relatively low presence of U.S. businesses in the country and expressed interest in increasing participation through partnerships and new investments.
During the meeting, Minister Michel outlined key priorities from Chad’s National Development Programme (NDP) 2026–2030, emphasizing the strategic development of artificial intelligence. He encouraged U.S. companies to explore opportunities in the country and proposed formalizing collaborations through Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) in telecommunications and digitalization.
The conversation also addressed the business climate, with the U.S. delegation stressing the importance of transparency in market allocation. The minister reiterated the directives of President Mahamat Déby to ensure all procedures follow principles of good governance.
