This newly launched third station is powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI) and equipped with cutting-edge technology.

As part of its unwavering commitment to realizing the country’s green legacy and supporting the increasing electric vehicle ecosystem with state-of-the-art technology, our company, Ethio telecom  has today officially inaugurated its third Super-Fast Electric Vehicle Charging Station around Summit-Fyel Bet area of Addis Ababa.

This newly launched third station is powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI) and equipped with cutting-edge technology. It features super-fast chargers capable of automatically diagnosing and adapting to various vehicle specifications—with specific compatibility for European EV models, addressing a critical market gap.

The station can accommodate up to 16 vehicles at a time, ensuring efficient service for drivers. With this commissioning, our company’s total combined capacity now reaches 48 vehicles at a time across the three stations we have built.

Operational Success and Environmental Impact

It is worth noting that our company previously built and commissioned charging stations capable of serving up to 32 electric vehicles at a time along both directions of the Bole–Megenagna corridor.

Since commencing operations on February 11, 2025, these stations have served over 165,000 electric vehicles, dispensing 4,349,761.54 kilowatt-hours of energy. This initiative has successfully prevented the emission of 6,081,447.62 kilograms of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere—an environmental contribution equivalent to planting more than 30,444 trees.

Smart technology powered by AI

The station features 16 super-fast chargers, each with a capacity of up to 180KWH, enabling rapid charging times. The infrastructure employs advanced systems characterized by:
  • Intelligent Diagnostics:Leveraging AI, the system analyzes battery specifications and customer requests in advance (charging-after-diagnosis), delivering a self-adjusting, optimized charging session.
  • Battery Health & Efficiency:The technology ensures zero energy loss, high efficiency, and zero error rates, while actively maintaining and restoring battery health.
  • Future-Ready Scalability:The infrastructure is designed with a scalable architecture, allowing for cost-effective and rapid expansion or upgrades to meet growing demand.

Seamless Digital Experience via telebirr

Delivering on the promise of a digital lifestyle, the station operates 24/7 and is fully integrated with the telebirr SuperApp:
  • Integrated Payment:Customers can settle payments quickly, securely, and conveniently via telebirr.
  • Self-Service Capability:Drivers can initiate service and complete transactions independently.
  • Smart Monitoring:A robust online monitoring system allows users to track charging progress in real-time. The system is backed by highly reliable cloud servers connected via Fiber, 4G, and 5G networks.
  • Tap-to-Charge:NFC (Near Field Communication) technology enables smart authentication, allowing users to start charging with a simple tap.
Strengthening Ethiopia’s Digital and Green Transformation

As our country Ethiopia accelerates its transition toward a green economy and sustainable mobility, Ethio telecom continues to play its leading role by deploying reliable, efficient, and future-ready infrastructure.

The inauguration of this third high-tech charging station stands as a testament to our company continued effort to transform the nation’s transportation ecosystem through the power of digital solutions and innovation.
