Cameroon’s Port of Douala-Bonabéri Launches 4G/5G Smart Port Transformation
With this agreement, the Autonomous Port of Douala reinforces its ambition to elevate Douala-Bonabéri to international Smart Port standards and maintain its position as a key gateway for regional trade.
The Autonomous Port of Douala (PAD) has taken a major step in its digital modernization strategy with the signing of a new agreement to deploy next-generation 4G/5G infrastructure and Smart Port solutions across the Port of Douala-Bonabéri.
The agreement, signed on November 17, 2025, by PAD Director General Cyrus NGO’O and INNOVENDI Chairman and CEO Joël MONEFONG at the port’s Bonanjo headquarters, outlines the rollout of a comprehensive digital ecosystem fully funded by INNOVENDI and its partners.
Under the project, the Port of Douala-Bonabéri will benefit from hybrid 4G/5G connectivity, IoT systems, proximity cloud services, advanced cybersecurity solutions, and smart digital interfaces aimed at overhauling port operations. The investment is structured as a public-private partnership in which INNOVENDI will provide financing in exchange for an entry fee, fixed and variable charges, and additional fees governed by port regulations.
According to PAD, the initiative stems from an unsolicited proposal evaluated by a dedicated committee and aligns directly with the authority’s strategic plan to modernize port workflows, improve operational efficiency, and reduce cargo transit times. The enhanced infrastructure is also expected to strengthen the port’s competitiveness as the leading logistics hub in the Gulf of Guinea.
Beyond operational improvements, the project is anticipated to deliver significant socio-economic benefits, including the creation of direct and indirect jobs, skills development for young professionals, increased participation of local SMEs, and the transfer of advanced technologies.
With this agreement, the Autonomous Port of Douala reinforces its ambition to elevate Douala-Bonabéri to international Smart Port standards and maintain its position as a key gateway for regional trade.
