Orange Sierra Leone Launches Bo Data Centre to Boost Connectivity and Resilience
This new facility is part of Orange Sierra Leone’s ongoing commitment to building sustainable, resilient, and energy-efficient digital infrastructure, reinforcing its role as a trusted partner in the country’s long-term digital and economic development.
Orange Sierra Leone has officially launched its new Data Centre in Bo City, marking a significant step in enhancing the country’s digital infrastructure. The facility, a full-scale replica of Orange Sierra Leone’s Freetown Data Centre, is designed to serve as a disaster recovery hub, ensuring that emergencies, outages, or natural disasters do not disrupt digital services nationwide.
Strategically located in the southern region, the Bo Data Centre will extend connectivity to rural and regional communities, including Makeni, Kono, and Kenema. By segregating and balancing network traffic, the center is expected to improve service reliability and performance, particularly in previously underserved areas.
The project represents an investment of over 23 million Euros and demonstrates the potential of public–private partnerships in driving innovation, inclusion, and economic transformation.
The commissioning ceremony on Saturday, 29 November 2025, was attended by His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio, who highlighted the importance of robust cybersecurity, citizen data protection, and the fight against cybercrime and cyberbullying. He also emphasized that alongside infrastructure development, investing in people and skills remains crucial for Sierra Leone’s digital future.
Government officials and industry leaders at the event underscored the significance of the new facility. Salima Monorma Bah, Minister of Communication, Technology and Innovation, noted progress in connectivity and digital services since 2018. Hon. Matthew Nyumah highlighted the importance of service continuity, while Brelotte BA, Director General of Sonatel Group and Chairman of Orange Sierra Leone’s Board, emphasized data sovereignty and inclusive digital transformation.
Sekou Amadou Bah, CEO of Orange Sierra Leone, described the Bo Data Centre as a strategic investment to expand digital and financial services, fostering innovation across Bo and surrounding regions.
This new facility is part of Orange Sierra Leone’s ongoing commitment to building sustainable, resilient, and energy-efficient digital infrastructure, reinforcing its role as a trusted partner in the country’s long-term digital and economic development.
