According to Camtel, the MSA is designed to support Cameroon’s digital transformation priorities and marks the beginning of a new era of cooperation between the two state-owned operators.

Ethio Telecom and Camtel have signed a Master Service Agreement (MSA) in Yaoundé, formalizing a new cooperation framework between the two national telecom operators. The signing ceremony took place at the Hilton Hotel in the presence of the CEO and General Director of both companies.

Prior to the event, the CEO of Ethio Telecom visited Camtel headquarters for technical and commercial discussions focused on potential areas of collaboration. Earlier in the morning, the two leaders were received by the Prime Minister of Cameroon, who welcomed the agreement and described it as an important South–South partnership supporting the country’s digital modernization.

According to Camtel, the MSA is designed to support Cameroon’s digital transformation priorities and marks the beginning of a new era of cooperation between the two state-owned operators.

ETHIO TELECOM’S NEW STRATEGIC DIRECTION

Ethio Telecom recently announced its new three-year “Next Horizon: Digital & Beyond 2028 Strategy,” which plans to expand the operator’s role beyond national boundaries and strengthen its position as a regionally engaged and globally competitive digital service provider. The strategy emphasizes digital services, platform-based innovation, and partnerships as core enablers of future growth. The roadmap highlights regional cooperation and African-market engagement as part of its long-term objectives.

TECHNICAL COOPERATION AREAS

Leveraging its successful track record in large-scale digital transformation, Ethio Telecom will share its expertise to support Camtel’s objectives in several technical domains:

  • Fintech: Strategic support for the development and launch of Camtel’s “Blue Money” mobile financial service.
  • National Digital Infrastructure: Guidance on the architecture and deployment of a Sovereign Government Cloud for Cameroon.
  • Connectivity: Consultancy on optimizing nationwide 4G and 5G network expansion and performance.
  • Digital Culture: Sharing best practices for institutional modernization and service-delivery transformation.

REGIONAL SIGNIFICANCE

The partnership aligns with Ethio Telecom’s broader goals of strengthening cross-border collaboration within Africa and contributing to digital ecosystem development across the continent. The agreement also establishes a strong foundation for broadening the scope of cooperation. By jointly deploying modern digital solutions for individuals, businesses, and public institutions, both operators aim to support Cameroon’s transition toward a more inclusive and competitive digital economy.

Both companies view the MSA as the starting point for deeper engagement and expanded collaboration in the years ahead.
