NITDA Partners with Google to Enhance Nigeria’s Cyber Resilience

December 3, 2025
2 min read

The NITDA–Google Cybersecurity Workshop is regarded as a significant milestone in Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to strengthen digital trust.

Nigeria has reinforced its commitment to digital security as the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) , in partnership with Google,  convened a two-day Cybersecurity Workshop in Abuja.

The workshop brought together government officials, industry experts, and cybersecurity stakeholders to review Nigeria’s existing frameworks, assess critical vulnerabilities, and explore opportunities for collaboration. The initiative comes at a time when Nigeria’s fast-growing digital economy requires stronger protective measures to safeguard citizens, support innovation, and maintain trust in digital platforms.

Representing NITDA’s Director General, Dr. Ayodele Bakare, Assistant Director of the Cybersecurity Department, emphasized that the workshop aligns with national efforts to strengthen cyber governance. He noted that the country has established key instruments—including the Cybercrime Prohibition and Prevention Act (2015, amended 2024), the National Cybersecurity Policy and Strategy, and several sector-specific regulations such as the National PKI Regulation and the Nigerian Data Protection Act. According to NITDA, coordinated implementation across sectors remains central to improving national resilience.

Google expressed that its participation in the workshop is focused on knowledge sharing, capacity building, and aligning with Nigeria’s cybersecurity priorities. The company highlighted its experience in managing one of the world’s largest digital infrastructures and indicated a willingness to support Nigeria in addressing identified gaps.

The National Cybersecurity Coordination Center (NCCC), represented by Prof. Abdullah Mohammad on behalf of the National Security Adviser, underlined the importance of partnerships in driving capacity building, research, and innovation. The Center reaffirmed its role in coordinating national cybersecurity programmes and supporting cross-agency collaboration.

Over the two days, participants engaged in discussions on policy enhancement, skills development, and the deployment of resilient cybersecurity infrastructure capable of responding to rapidly evolving threats.

The NITDA–Google Cybersecurity Workshop is regarded as a significant milestone in Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to strengthen digital trust. By combining global expertise with national regulatory and coordinating structures, the initiative sets the stage for improved cooperation, practical interventions, and long-term cybersecurity readiness.

Experts say sustained investment in cybersecurity will play an important role in protecting Nigerian citizens, attracting technological innovation, and supporting the country’s aspirations as a leading digital economy in Africa.
