These measures include clearer information on service offers, stronger safeguards for subscription and pricing of value-added services, and harmonization of billing steps across services.
ARCEP Burkina Faso has announced major regulatory decisions aimed at strengthening consumer rights and ensuring fairer, more transparent electronic communication services. The Executive Secretary, Wendlassida Patrice Compaore, shared the updates during a press conference on December 2, 2025.
The regulatory body confirmed that the legal measures introduced in 2023 have been upheld by the courts. These include extending the main account validity from 90 to 180 days following the last recharge, allowing bonuses to be used across any network, guaranteeing recovery of expired credits within a set timeframe, and ensuring a minimum validity of one month for subscribed 1GB data plans.
Looking ahead, ARCEP introduced new measures for 2025 designed to further protect consumers and enhance transparency. These measures include clearer information on service offers, stronger safeguards for subscription and pricing of value-added services, and harmonization of billing steps across services.
The regulator emphasized that these actions aim to reduce costs for consumers and provide immediate protection of their rights. ARCEP also acknowledged the role of consumer organizations in advocating for these changes, highlighting their contribution to achieving these regulatory improvements.
ARCEP reiterated its commitment to maintaining market balance, ensuring quality services, and safeguarding the rights of all Burkinabe citizens.
