By embracing 5G, Algeria strengthens its position as an emerging digital leader in North Africa and sets the foundation for future innovation across multiple sectors.

Algeria has entered a new phase of digital modernization with the official activation of its 5G mobile network, a move that strengthens the country’s technological capabilities and supports its long-term digital strategy. The Ministry of Post and Telecommunications confirmed the launch on Wednesday evening, describing it as a milestone for national connectivity and innovation.

The rollout was announced during a ceremony at the International Conference Center in Algiers, led by the Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Ali Zerouki. Senior government officials and representatives from the three mobile operators—Mobilis, Djezzy and Ooredoo—were present. Each operator showcased real-world demonstrations illustrating how 5G could accelerate the development of digital services and contribute to the growth of Algeria’s smart economy.

With the network now live, Algeria has begun deploying its initial 5G base stations. The nationwide rollout will follow a six-year implementation roadmap prioritizing selected provinces before gradually extending coverage to all regions. The phased approach is designed to ensure smooth adoption for citizens, businesses and public institutions.

Technology specialists highlight that 5G will introduce a substantial performance upgrade across the telecommunications sector. The new network promises faster data speeds, drastically lower latency and greater capacity to connect large volumes of devices. These improvements are expected to drive progress in areas such as healthcare, education, industrial automation, digital public services and smart-city development.

By embracing 5G, Algeria strengthens its position as an emerging digital leader in North Africa and sets the foundation for future innovation across multiple sectors.
