Minister Somaali Calls for Stronger Digital Infrastructure and Innovation Reforms Across Africa

This year’s summit places a strategic emphasis on strengthening support for high-growth startups, enhancing digital connectivity, advancing technology-driven innovation, and expanding ICT infrastructure to enable resilient, inclusive, and competitive digital economies across the continent.

The Minister of Communications and Technology of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Mohamed Somaali, has participated in the Ministerial Roundtable convened on the second day of the African Startup Summit — a continental gathering focused on accelerating digital innovation and empowering emerging technology enterprises across Africa.

This year’s summit places a strategic emphasis on strengthening support for high-growth startups, enhancing digital connectivity, advancing technology-driven innovation, and expanding ICT infrastructure to enable resilient, inclusive, and competitive digital economies across the continent. Senior officials representing various African nations are attending the high-level sessions taking place in Algiers.

The Ministerial Roundtable brought together communications and technology ministers from across Africa to deliberate on the future of the continent’s digital transformation, policy harmonization, and the role of innovation ecosystems in driving sustainable development.

Representing Somalia, Minister Mohamed Somaali delivered a substantive intervention highlighting:

Strategic frameworks for strengthening Africa’s digital connectivity, Robust cybersecurity protocols and data protection mechanisms, Policy reforms that stimulate innovation, entrepreneurship, and ICT-driven business growth, And the critical infrastructure required for Africa’s transition toward a digitally-enabled economy.

The Minister underscored Somalia’s commitment to fostering innovation, expanding digital access, and contributing to a unified African digital vision that ensures no nation is left behind.
