The Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA)  has announced that its Board of Commissioners hosted a high-level delegation from Huawei to explore opportunities for accelerating the country’s digital transformation. The meeting focused on deepening collaboration and reviewing Huawei’s proposed Digital Village initiative.

During the engagement, Huawei presented its Digital Village vision, outlining what the project will deliver once fully completed and handed over. Key components include the provision of solar-powered electricity for households, enhanced connectivity through a dedicated internet tower, and the establishment of a connected high school. The school will feature a smart classroom equipped with a touchscreen board, reliable internet access, and a comprehensive e-learning platform designed to modernize teaching and learning.

The discussions also emphasized the broader impact of the Digital Village model. According to the LTA, the initiative has the potential to strengthen Liberia’s education ecosystem, stimulate local economic activity, and expand access to crucial digital services. The project aligns with the government’s national digitization strategy, which aims to improve digital inclusion and drive socio-economic development across the country.
