Starlink Kenya Hits 19,460 Active Users in September 2025, Setting New Record

December 9, 2025
1 min read

The rebound underscores steady demand for premium satellite internet, particularly in regions where fibre networks remain limited.

Starlink  Internet Services Kenya has reached a new milestone, recording 19,460 active users as of September 2025, marking the satellite provider’s highest subscriber count since entering the Kenyan market.

The growth follows Starlink’s decision to reopen residential sign-ups in urban centers in June 2025, ending a seven-month suspension. The company had previously halted new registrations in dense urban areas such as Nairobi and Mombasa in December 2024 to manage network congestion. This temporary freeze had stalled growth, with active users dropping to 17,066 by March 2025 before rebounding to 17,425 in June and climbing to 19,460 in September.

The rebound underscores steady demand for premium satellite internet, particularly in regions where fibre networks remain limited. At the same time, the earlier registration freeze highlighted Starlink’s capacity constraints in densely populated markets, emphasizing the need for faster network upgrades and improved load management to sustain growth in major towns.

While Starlink continues to expand, competitors have capitalized on the temporary gap. Safaricom, for example, recorded 815,037 fixed-internet connections as of September 2025, representing a 35.6 percent market share. Despite this, Starlink’s satellite service remains most valuable in remote and peri-urban areas, where it provides reliable connectivity in regions underserved by traditional infrastructure.
