The new phase aims to deepen digital integration through enhanced connectivity and climate-smart infrastructure, improving resilience, inclusivity and the overall quality of healthcare service delivery across the country.

Zambia has taken a significant step toward strengthening digital healthcare delivery through the successful hosting of the Smart Health Systems (SHS) Connectivity National Training of Trainers (ToT) Workshop. The initiative was led by the Smart Zambia Institute (SZI)  and the Ministry of Health (MoH), in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)  and supported by the Global Fund.

The workshop focused on equipping participants with hands-on skills in installing, operating and troubleshooting key components of the Smart Health Systems project. Training covered various technologies, including Starlink-powered internet systems, designed to enhance connectivity in remote and underserved health facilities.

Participants included provincial ICT officers, biomedical engineers, personnel from the Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA), and technical teams from across the Ministry of Health. The programme fostered collaboration and strengthened national technical capacity to support Zambia’s digital health goals.

The Smart Health Systems Project builds on the earlier Solar for Health initiative, which powered more than 400 health facilities nationwide. The new phase aims to deepen digital integration through enhanced connectivity and climate-smart infrastructure, improving resilience, inclusivity and the overall quality of healthcare service delivery across the country.
