The ICT Ministry reiterated its dedication to expanding digital rights, improving regulatory policies, and ensuring that South Sudan’s telecom landscape becomes more accessible and affordable for all.

South Sudan’s Ministry of Information, Communication Technology and Postal Services  has commended MTN South Sudan  for reducing its service tariffs by 25%, while calling on the telecom operator to implement additional cuts to make services more affordable for citizens.

Minister Ateny Wek Ateny gave the remarks on Thursday during an MTN stakeholder appreciation event, where he acknowledged the company’s efforts to ease the cost burden on consumers. He emphasized that further reductions would significantly enhance digital inclusion and support economic participation across the country.

During his address, the Minister also announced that the Cybersecurity and Computer Misuse Bill is now awaiting final assent from the presidency. Once signed into law, the bill is expected to strengthen the legal framework against hate speech, online harassment, and social media abuse — issues that have had profound negative effects, particularly on young people.

In addition, he revealed that the Ministry, in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice, will soon begin work on the Data Protection Bill. The proposed legislation aims to safeguard citizen privacy and protect critical government data, reinforcing the country’s commitment to building a safer and more secure digital ecosystem.
