The minister noted that addressing the challenges faced by these institutions is essential to improving information flow, strengthening digital infrastructure and ensuring reliable communication services across the country.

President Salva Kiir Mayardit has been briefed on the progress and challenges facing the Ministry of Information, Communication Technology and Postal Services, following a meeting with the Minister, Ateny Wek Ateny, in Juba.

The meeting, held on December 12, focused on the state of the ICT and postal services sector and explored possible solutions to operational and institutional difficulties affecting the ministry and its parastatals. Minister Ateny provided an update on ongoing work within the ministry and highlighted key constraints impacting service delivery.

According to the minister, particular attention was given to the challenges confronting the South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC), which continues to face critical operational difficulties. He said these challenges affect the institution’s ability to effectively carry out its mandate of public broadcasting and information dissemination.

The Ministry of Information, Communication Technology and Postal Services oversees several strategic parastatals responsible for media regulation, telecommunications and access to information. These include the South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation, the National Communication Authority, the Media Authority, the Information Commission and the Universal Service Access Fund.
