Galaxy Backbone Unveils 2025–2028 Strategy to Drive Nigeria’s Digital Transformation

December 17, 2025
2 min read

The IDTS introduces refreshed mission and vision statements that reflect GBB’s readiness for a rapidly changing technological landscape.

Nigeria stands at a critical juncture in its digital evolution, where decisions on infrastructure, cybersecurity, and public digital services will shape the nation’s competitiveness in the global digital economy. At the heart of this transformation is Galaxy Backbone (GBB),  which earlier this year unveiled its Integrated Digital Transformation Strategy (IDTS) 2025–2028. The strategy goes beyond aspirations, serving as a practical blueprint for a smarter, safer, and more citizen-focused digital ecosystem.

The IDTS introduces refreshed mission and vision statements that reflect GBB’s readiness for a rapidly changing technological landscape. The organisation’s vision is to become Nigeria’s leading enabler of innovative digital transformation and inclusive economic prosperity, placing citizens, institutions, and businesses at the centre of every digital initiative.

The Five Pillars Driving GBB’s Strategic Vision

  • Resilient Digital Infrastructure: GBB is expanding and modernising the National ICT Infrastructure Backbone (NICTIB), deploying energy-efficient and solar-powered connectivity nationwide to make reliable digital access universal.
  • Integrated Digital Ecosystems: Through platforms such as the Government Data Exchange (GDX), GBB is enabling seamless interoperability, giving government agencies secure, coordinated systems that improve governance and decision-making.
  • Innovative Service Delivery: User experience is prioritised, with unified portals, digital identity systems, and emerging technologies like AI helping deliver efficient, citizen-friendly digital services.
  • Digital Leadership & Trust: In response to evolving cyber threats, GBB is strengthening national cybersecurity capabilities, scaling its Security Operations Center (SOC), and building workforce capacity to safeguard Nigeria’s digital space.
  • Financial Sustainability & Value Creation: GBB is unlocking new revenue streams, expanding partnerships, diversifying services, and adopting innovative funding models to ensure long-term impact and value for government, businesses, and citizens.

Driving Digital Transformation Through Collaboration

A central theme of the IDTS is that progress requires collective effort. GBB is working with global tech leaders, government institutions, and state partners while extending broadband to underserved communities, ensuring that digital transformation benefits reach all Nigerians.

The IDTS 2025–2028 represents a bold call to reimagine how technology can power national development. With its renewed purpose and five strategic pillars, Galaxy Backbone is positioning itself as a catalyst for a secure, innovative, and inclusive digital future for Nigeria.
