Kenya Advances Equitable Digital Future Through UN WSIS+20 Process
The initiative underscores Kenya’s dedication to advancing a global digital future that is equitable, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of all nations.
Kenya has contributed significantly to the adoption of the WSIS+20 Outcome Document at the United Nations General Assembly, marking a major milestone in global digital cooperation. The document, adopted without a vote during a plenary session at UN Headquarters, emphasizes inclusive, people-focused digital development and the urgent need to bridge persistent digital gaps worldwide.
Kenya’s involvement was led by Mr. Stephen Isaboke, Principal Secretary for Broadcasting and Telecommunications, who highlighted the country’s commitment to ensuring that digital transformation delivers tangible social and economic benefits, especially for developing nations. The delegation also included Amb Ekitela Lokaale, Kenya’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Amb Philip Thigo, Kenya’s Special Envoy on Technology, as well as representatives from the Communications Authority of Kenya, the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, and the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy.
The successful adoption of the WSIS+20 review was the result of extensive collaboration among UN Member States and stakeholders, with Kenya playing a central role in building consensus. The initiative underscores Kenya’s dedication to advancing a global digital future that is equitable, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of all nations.
