A New Era of Connectivity: Starlink Officially Enters the Central African Republic

December 22, 2025
2 min read

As a result of the agreement, Starlink’s innovative satellite-based network, enabling reliable, high-speed connectivity, will be commercially available in CAR for the first time.

U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Dr. Melanie Anne Zimmerman welcomed the signing of an agreement between the Government of the Central African Republic (CAR) and U.S. telecommunications company Starlink on December 18, 2025. The U.S. Embassy was honored to join a ceremony hosted by the CAR President Faustin-Archange Touadéra, as representatives of the CAR Ministry of Post, Telecommunications, and Digital Economy, and Starlink’s U.S. parent company SpaceX formalized the agreement.

Speaking to government and private sector representatives at the event, Chargé d’Affaires Zimmerman committed to continue strengthening the relationship between the United States and CAR, especially by working together to expand opportunities for trade, investment, and commercial partnerships.
Chargé d’Affaires Zimmerman emphasized the U.S. Embassy’s diplomatic facilitating role, connecting the relevant parties and supporting constructive dialogue. She congratulated the CAR government and Starlink on this important milestone in the development of CAR’s digital economy.

As a result of the agreement, Starlink’s innovative satellite-based network, enabling reliable, high-speed connectivity, will be commercially available in CAR for the first time. In addition, Starlink will donate hundreds of kits for distribution throughout the country, enabling access for rural schools, health centers, and government institutions. Increased connectivity is key to unlocking further opportunities for digital infrastructure and investment, including new businesses, partnerships, and other forms of cooperation between American and local companies.

The ceremony was also attended by representatives of the U.S. Embassy and Starlink as well as the CAR Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Minister of Post, Telecommunications, and Digital Economy.

The United States supports initiatives that promote economic growth, innovation, and opportunities to deepen the trade and commercial partnership between our countries.
