By integrating UBA’s robust banking infrastructure with MTN’s massive subscriber base, the partnership effectively turns every mobile phone into a globally recognized payment tool.

MTN Zambia  and UBA Zambia  have officially joined forces to launch the Mastercard Virtual Card, a milestone that signals a major shift in the country’s financial landscape. This collaboration, recently highlighted by UBA Zambia’s Country Head of Digital Banking Sales, David Fundanga, serves as a strategic bridge between mobile money convenience and global banking security. By integrating UBA’s robust banking infrastructure with MTN’s massive subscriber base, the partnership effectively turns every mobile phone into a globally recognized payment tool.

For the average Zambian, this initiative removes the long-standing hurdles of traditional banking, such as the need for physical paperwork or a high-balance account to obtain a credit card. The virtual card is designed to meet the “everyday needs” of citizens, enabling them to participate in the digital economy by paying for international services, subscriptions, and goods with ease. This “digitally empowered” approach ensures that even small-scale entrepreneurs and remote users can compete on a global stage.

Beyond mere convenience, the rollout of the MoMo Virtual Card is a significant driver of economic growth and financial inclusion. By providing a secure, prepaid method for online transactions, UBA and MTN are fostering a safer digital environment that protects users from fraud while promoting a cashless society. This launch is not just a product update; it is a foundational step in MTN’s “Ambition 2025” and UBA’s mission to lead financial innovation throughout Zambia.
