Guinea Launches Univ Connect Project to Modernize Higher Education Digital Infrastructure
The project seeks to interconnect 17 universities and higher education institutes through a secure broadband network, creating a unified digital ecosystem for teaching, learning, and research.
The Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and the Digital Economy (MPTEN) has officially launched the Univ Connect project, a nationwide initiative aimed at strengthening digital infrastructure across Guinea’s higher education sector. The project was unveiled on Friday, December 26, 2025, by the Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and Digital Economy, Madam Rose Pola Pricemou, as part of the government’s broader vision to modernise tertiary education and drive innovation.
Univ Connect is being implemented by the National Agency for the Universal Service of Telecommunications and Digital (ANSUTEN) under the supervision of MPTEN. The project seeks to interconnect 17 universities and higher education institutes through a secure broadband network, creating a unified digital ecosystem for teaching, learning, and research. According to the ministry, significant progress has already been made, with 13 institutions connected to the national fibre-optic network, including nine that are fully operational.
The expanded connectivity is expected to benefit more than 80,000 students, lecturers, and researchers by providing improved access to digital tools, academic platforms, and global knowledge resources. The phased rollout includes the deployment of over 2 gigabits of broadband capacity nationwide, designed to support high-demand academic and research activities.
Speaking at the launch, Minister Pricemou commended ANSUTEN for its professionalism and emphasized that the initiative goes beyond physical infrastructure. She noted that the project will foster collaborative research, accelerate the digitalisation of academic and administrative services, and contribute to raising the overall quality of higher education in the country.
The launch ceremony was attended by the Minister of Commerce, Mrs. Fatima Camara, members of ANSUTEN’s Board of Directors, senior officials from MPTEN, and technical and financial partners. The event concluded with the symbolic distribution of tablets and computers to students, underscoring the government’s commitment to using digital technology as a practical driver of academic success and sustainable development.
