Kenya Targets 100,000 km Fiber Network, 25,000 Public WiFi Hotspots in 2026

The Authority aims to extend the national fiber optic network to 100,000 km and establish 25,000 public WiFi hotspots, enabling citizens to access digital services conveniently from their communities.

As the country welcomes 2026, the ICT Authority  has announced plans to accelerate the expansion of Kenya’s digital infrastructure, emphasizing greater access to high-speed internet and digital services for citizens. The Authority aims to extend the national fiber optic network to 100,000 km and establish 25,000 public WiFi hotspots, enabling citizens to access digital services conveniently from their communities.

The Authority also highlighted its commitment to digital literacy and skills development, in collaboration with the ICT industry. These initiatives are designed to equip citizens with the knowledge and tools to participate effectively in the digital economy, while creating linkages for digital opportunities. In addition, the ICT Authority will promote responsible data management practices and support measures that minimize the ICT sector’s environmental footprint, including reducing e-waste.

The ICT Authority acknowledged the critical role of partnerships in advancing its mandate, stressing that collaboration with industry stakeholders will be key to building an inclusive, innovative, and sustainable digital space in Kenya .
